Everyone has gone through difficult times of feeling distant from the Lord. I struggled in seeking the spirit over a period of years. I desired to feel that joy my peers expressed, but began to doubt if it were simply the result of some sort of self-hypnosis, or a “frenzied mind”¹―maybe they were making it all up. After all, many of them committed far more grievous sins than I! Though I watched movies I shouldn’t have, and though I listened to music that would make any mother blush, I surely didn’t participate in the kinds of sins they did. I was a pretty good person! So, why didn’t I feel like it?
